Defending champion Martina Hingis has breezed through to the semi-finals of the adidas International at Homebush with a 6-4 6-2 win over Sandrine Testud.

The former world number one looked in good touch as she beat the seventh seeded Frenchwoman.

Hingis will play Kim Clijsters, who beat fellow Belgian Justine Henin 7-6 6-2 in their quarter-final clash.

In other action, American qualifier Alexandra Stevenson's giant killing run has ended at the hands of compatriot Meghann Shaughnessy. Shaughnessy won their quarter-final matchup 6-4 6-1, and will play Serena Williams in the semis.

Williams was the first woman through to the semi-finals last night, beating Amelie Mauresmo from France 6-4 7-6 (8-6).

In the mens, Frenchman Nicolas Escude withdrew with a groin injury from his quarter-final match against Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela. Chela moves on to the semi-finals, where he will meet either Max Mirnyi or Julien Boutter.

Escude chose not to risk the injury ahead of next week's Australian Open.

On the other side of the draw, American young gun Andy Roddick will meet Korean Hyung-Taik Lee in a quarter-final showdown tonight with the winner to meet either Roger Federer or former world number one, Marcelo Rios.
