| PARIS (TICKER) -- No. 4 Jennifer Capriati of the United
States continued her remarkable comeback, advancing to a second straight
Grand Slam final Thursday with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over top seed Martina
Hingis in the French Open semifnals.
In the final, Capriati will meet No. 12 Kim Clijsters, who took the
battle of the Belgian teenagers, rallying to beat 14th-seeded Justine Henin,
2-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the first semifinal match.
In a rematch of the Australian Open final, Capriati won eight of the
last 11 games to move into her first final at Roland Garros.
The 25-year-old played in her first semifinal at the world's top claycourt
event since 1990 when, at 14, she became the youngest player to reach the
French Open. She advanced to the fourth round the following year and the
quarterfinals in 1992 and 1993 before personal problems derailed her career.
Capriati already had put a stamp on her surprising comeback by stunning
the Swiss star, also by the score of 6-4, 6-3, in January in the Australian
Open final for her first major title.
The 20-year-old Hingis has advanced to the French Open semifinals five
straight years, but this is the only Grand Slam that has eluded her.
Clijsters, who is the first Belgian player to reach a Grand Slam final,
will celebrate her 18th birthday on Friday and play Capriati in the French
Open final on Saturday.
