| DOHA, Qatar (AP) -- Top-seeded Martina Hingis breezed
into the semifinals of the Qatar Open with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Joannette
Kruger of South Africa on Friday.
Hingis, ranked No. 1 in the world, needed only 51 minutes for the victory.
Earlier Friday, Adriana Gersi of the Czech Republic advanced to the
semis with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win over Kristie Boogert of the Netherlands.
Injury forced Henrietta Nagyova of Slovakia to withdraw. She played
only one set against Sandrine Testud of France before pain from a thumb
injury forced her to quit.
Testud, who won the set 6-3, will play Gersi in Saturday's first semi.
Hingis goes against Barbara Schett of Austria.
Schett defeated qualifier Lina Krasnoroutskaya of Russia 6-3, 6-4.
