| PHILADELPHIA (TICKER) -- Top seed Martina Hingis of Switzerland
tonight set up yet another title match with American Lindsay Davenport
at the Advanta Championships.
Hingis dumped No. 4 Nathalie Tauziat of France, 6-1, 6-2, to advance
to the final of the penultimate event of the WTA Tour season.
Her opponent will be a familiar one in Davenport, the defending champion
who disposed of third seed Conchita Martinez, 6-0, 6-1, this afternoon.
Davenport holds an 11-9 lead in the all-time series, with the last 14
meetings coming in championship matches. They have split four this year,
with Hingis winning the last two.
Hingis has won 15 successive matches since her semifinal loss to Venus
Williams at the U.S. Open. She has captured the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix,
Swisscom Challenge and Kremlin Cup since her last defeat.
This year, the 20-year-old has won 73 of 81 matches, more than $14 million
and eight of her 34 career singles titles.
Davenport, the second seed, also is the defending champion at next week's
Chase Championship at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The 24-year-old has had an injury-plagued year but is seeking her fourth
straight singles title, excluding the Olympics.
Hingis advanced to the semifinals on Friday by eliminating doubles partner
Anna Kournikova of Russia. Kournikova fell to 1-10 lifetime against Hingis,
who also defeated her in the final at the Kremlin Cup.
Martinez, 28, won this tournament in 1993 for one of her 23 career titles.
First prize at this $535,000 event is $87,000.
