| MOSCOW (AP) -- Still no titles for Anna Kournikova, even
with a home-court advantage.
Top-ranked Martina Hingis beat Kournikova, her doubles partner, 6-3,
6-1 Sunday to capture the Kremlin Cup in a lopsided match that left her
as the youngest player to win $14 million in prize money.
In the men's final, Olympic champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia defeated
David Prinosil of Germany 6-2, 7-5 for his fourth straight Kremlin Cup
and his first ATP Tour title this year.
``I didn't have a slightest doubt in my victory today,'' said Kafelnikov,
seeded second.
Kournikova was supported by a sellout crowd of 16,300 at Olympic stadium.
``I'm glad I got to the finals and I am upset at losing the match,''
the Russian said. ``I played well yesterday, but today Martina played better.
I struggled until the last point.''
In winning her 70th match of the year, Hingis ran off five games in
a row to finish the first set and take a 3-0 lead in the second. She then
allowed just one point in the final two games to close out her eighth title
of the year and 34th career championship.
Kournikova, one of the most-followed players on the WTA Tour, remains
without a pro championship. This was her fourth appearance in a singles
final.
She will re-enter the rankings at No. 10 for the first time since April.
Hingis, playing her 11th final this year, won the two final games of
the first set at love, finishing the set in 26 minutes.
She continued the run in the second set before Kournikova could break
her in the fourth game. And that was all the Russian star could do.
Hingis broke back and gave Kournikova just one point in two final games
to close the match in 46 minutes.
``I think in the beginning, it was a very even match,'' Hingis said.
``But in the second set she started missing a little bit more. I knew I
had to play very well against her today because she had nothing to lose
and the crowd supported her.''
Hingis earned $166,000 for the victory.
