| HONG KONG, Jan 8 (Reuters) - World number one Martina
Hingis suffered an upset defeat by Jennifer Capriati in the final of an
exhibition tennis event on Saturday.
The American beat Hingis 7-6 4-6 6-3, a result which put her in
upbeat mood for the new year.
"This is the first time I have beaten her in my career and if
I can do it here, I can't see why I cannot repeat it at a Grand Slam event,"
Capriati said.
Hingis, who defends her Australian Open title in Melbourne later
this month, said after the defeat in which she dropped serve eight times:
"It will push me to do better now. I need to improve my game."
