| REGENSDORF, Switzerland (AP) - Martina Hingis, the world's No. 1 women's
tennis player, had her first day of freedom on
the roads Saturday after getting her drivers license.
The 18-year-old had won nearly everything possible in her sport, but
she had not always been able to profit from her success.
Hingis has four vehicles - two Opels and two Porsches - won or presented
to her during the course of her tennis career, but
she has not been allowed to drive them unaccompanied until now.
She passed her test on the first attempt Friday. The minimum age to
drive in Switzerland is 18, and Hingis has been taking
lessons between tournaments since her birthday Dec. 2.
Hingis said her biggest fear had been not sticking to the speed limits.
She drove away in an Opel with red and black leather and her name on
the side.
